About to purchase my FOURTH... for our FIRST granddaughter!

4/2017 Update: What a WONDERFUL keepsake this will be for our grandchildren! We LOVE Dr. Seuss in our home, where I'd babysat our three grandsons, prior to my daughter-in-law becoming a stay-at-home-mom (talk about a repeat of "empty next syndrome"!) When the oldest one began all day kindergarten years ago, we'd purchased this book and - seeing how much he enjoyed working on it - went ahead and purchased additional copies for the other two boys to have at the ready when it came their turn to start kindergarten. Well, I'm now coming back for a fourth copy of this terrific little book!

We've collected every single Seuss children's book, but there are three books in particular that we've now ordered four copies of, because they can be personalized by the grandkids to make them truly "their own"! This one, along with "I Can Write! A Book by Me, Myself" and "I Can Draw It Myself, By Me, Myselff" will become treasured keepsakes, little "snapshots" of where they were developmentally that they can look back on one day with a smile.

While the other two are terrific as well, this one is definitely our favorite. SIXTY pages just BRIMMING with fun facts your child fills in about him/herself, and be able to author his/her own little autobiography! This is somewhat along the lines of a baby book you'd receive as a baby shower gift, with pages where your child can trace his hand and foot, etc, but there's oh so much more in the way of fun facts for him/her to fill in to help them remember "where their head was at" at that age, with a little help from Dr. Seuss and many bright, colorful illustrations! Can't recommend this book highly enough!

We've thoroughly enjoyed being able to so closely participate in and observe our grandkids' growth and development, and finding new ways to encourage both. These books have been fun tools to use toward that end. We truly treasure our little guys - we'd take a dozen more gladly!

This is a great book. My adult daughter filled one in years ago. My grandchildren found it and wanted it read to them multiple times. So I ordered one for each of them. I know they'll be excited to fill in their own "My Book about Me". It makes a great memory book for parents to keep.

About the Author

Marge Lial was always interested in math; it was her favorite subject in the first grade! Marge's intense desire to educate both her students and herself has inspired the writing of numerous best-selling textbooks. Marge, who received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California State University at Sacramento, is affiliated with American River College. Marge is an avid reader and traveler. Her travel experiences often find their way into her books as applications, exercise sets, and feature sets. She is particularly interested in archeology. Trips to various digs and ruin sites have produced some fascinating problems for her textbooks involving such topics as the building of Mayan pyramids and the acoustics of ancient ball courts in the Yucatan.

When John Hornsby enrolled as an undergraduate at Louisiana State University, he was uncertain whether he wanted to study mathematics education or journalism. His ultimate decision was to become a teacher, but after twenty-five years of teaching at the high school and university levels and�fifteen years of writing mathematics textbooks, both of his goals have been realized. His love for both teaching and for mathematics is evident in his passion for working with students and fellow teachers as well. His specific professional interests are recreational mathematics, mathematics history, and incorporating graphing calculators into the curriculum. John's personal life is busy as he devotes time to his family (wife Gwen, and sons Chris, Jack, and Josh). He has been a rabid baseball fan all of his life. John's other hobbies include numismatics (the study of coins) and record collecting. He loves the music of the 1960s and has an extensive collection of the recorded works of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

A native Midwesterner, Terry McGinnis received her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Iowa State University. She has taught elementary and middle school mathematics, and developed and implemented the curriculum used with her students. Terry has been involved in college mathematics publishing for over 20 years, working with a variety of authors on textbooks in developmental mathematics and precalculus. After working behind the scenes on many of the Lial/Hornsby textbooks and supplements for over 10 years, Terry joined Margaret Lial and John Hornsby in 2002 as coauthor of their developmental mathematics series that includes Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Introductory and Intermediate Algebra. When not working, Terry enjoys spinning at a local health club, walking, and reading fiction. She is the devoted mother of two sons, Andrew and Tyler.

This book was a little confusing at first but for someone like me who is just learning this it was perfect. It's very detailed and there is more help on the disks.I don't really understand my instructor half of the time but with a book like this I don't really need him =)

Immaculate scholarship

This is Cooper's second collection of essays. Most of the essays are on Plato, Aristotle or the Stoics, but there are also essays on e.g. the methodology of ancient medicine and Academic scepticism. Although there are four essays on ethics, most of the essays in this volume are concerned with epistemology or metaphysics (knowledge and nature).

Although most of the essays have been published elsewhere, many have been revised and expanded. There are some new essays too.

No fault can be found with Cooper's scholarship, which is immaculate, astute and meticulous. These essays may prove difficult for the beginner, however, but vill be of great value to those who already have some acquaintance with ancient philosophy. The volume will be of interest to classicists and philosophers alike and is highly recommended.

LEVERAGE

In the spirit of full disclosure I have to say that Ron Lemen is my friend and an artist I've admired for some time. However, beyond bias likes or dislikes, an anatomy book has to deliver clear advantages and insight for the problems of figure drawing or it fails. it's not a matter of taste; it either works or it doesn't. -- This one works.

This book has more than one contributor and as with many such books that can make it a mixed bag, so I didn't give the 5star rate. But it's Lemen's work that pulls this train and his is fortunately the largest part of the book. (His name should have been on the cover somewhere. A lack of credit and marketing vision from ImagineFX as there's a strong following for this artist).

Whether your a pro (I am) or just starting out, this thing will have some goods for you. Lemen likes you to have some way of scaffolding the whole of the figurative problem and makes sure you're not forgetting things that will trip you up later. He quite elegantly lays out a couple of systematic approaches. While that may sound dry, it gets you quickly into the game. He makes sure of your mechanics so you don't have to be mechanical. This leverages seeing over and above continuous fixing and noodling, which can kill inspiration.

A surprise bonus in the book is Marshall Vandruff's section on animal anatomy. Smart, whimsical and occasionally bizarre stuff.

Although the book is slanted toward concepting for media projects, that has it's advantages; it's all about figures that work and are conceived as capable of action at any moment. Lemen wants your stuff to breathe.

This book is pretty alright if you just want a simple crash course in figure drawing. I would recommend this if you already know the basics mainly because of its animal anatomy section. If you want a book that teaches figure drawing and anatomy in an in-depth but simplified understandable way then I would highly recommend "figure drawing: design and invention" by Michael Hampton. If you are struggling with drawing the human body then that is the perfect book for you. Now don't get me wrong " how to draw and paint anatomy" is good but it is really simplefided I would say only get it if you want to be able to draw animals and creatures because it is really good in that respect
