Best real-world lessons distilled into one easy to read volume

I have been doing process improvement for half my professional career - seeing yet another book on the subject, I was tempted to yawn - but as I got into this book ( a very easy read BTW ) I realized that the author had managed to distill so much of the best hard-earned, real-world lessons, that I have lived to tell about, down into this one volume. Not only was it all the things that I had learned the hard way, I am sure I could NOT have organized it any better. I realized this was the perfect book to introduce my clients to BEFORE I start talking to them about process and innovation.

I have since heard the author speak on the subject and was blown away by the depth and precision that he delivered the key points. Hamme is able to jump right to the key issues very quickly and turn the challenges into new opportunities. Well worth the time to read - and an excellent recipe for implementing several core business processes and disciplines within an organization. My guess is that the author or his team, or both, could help any company implement a customer focused process innovation too.

"Thought Provoking. Tips and Tools that can be used in your business."

Thought provoking read of how to make innovation a part of the everyday life of your company. Innovation is hard and it seems only found in small companies but Dave creates a framework to keep the process alive and well in any size organization. Book should be shared by leadership teams to discuss as they are creating next year's strategic and operational plans.

This is great Kool-Aid and easy to digest!

I found this book a breath of fresh air and would love to see this practice used by more companies. Being an Industrial & Systems Engineer by discipline and a Quality Management, Manufacturing, and Product Development professional for 20+ years, I've seen too many disconnects when it comes to effectively and efficiently getting what the customer wants, when they want it, and at the right price. Far too often, solutions are late to market, over-priced, and the final product/service is not meeting expectations. This book lays the foundation and has the blue-prints to get it right the first time and be able to adjust quickly to "unforeseen" market conditions.

I would love to see this practice used by more companies. Far too often, great decisions falter because the executives are not in tune with enough corporate processes (at the mega process level) to know if their strategy will be successful at the transactional level. And what happens if the executives have "yes" people working with them? Executives armed with a good foundation on how the company operates (blocking & tackling at a high level) with a methodology of checks/balances creates a consistent culture of iterative innovation with built in vetting that looks at a bigger picture without slowing things down with hierarchy and processes for the sake of process.

I understand why the name was called Customer Focused Process Innovation. Not sure how else to quickly summarize this paradigm shift. Read it from beginning to end and you too will call it a breath of fresh air! This is great Kool-Aid and easy to digest!

Caution! Public Domain Reprint!

I had hoped to find new, up to date information of Salvadore Lucania (a.k.a. "Lucky Charle", Lucky Luciano, etc.). Sadly, what I got was a reprint of a somewhat lurid "crime reporter's" account of Lucania's trial for prostitution in the 1930s. If that is what you are looking for, this is a good read. However, the only new information herein is a brief introduction and a more brief afterword. The more interesting stories of his role in the WWII invasion of Sicily and his return to Cuba in the 1950s are sadly not given the coverage they deserve. AUTHORS TIP: here is a story worthy of coverage: what happened after he was deported and perhaps what happened to his children.

Bad book by a biased sycophant of the author

This has to be the worst 'Biog' ever.I defy anyone to find enough mentions of Luciano's name to warrant the Title of this book.The main charactor is DEWEY who was so ambitious to become Govenor that he used any means to nail Luciano ,later he tried and failed for President.Even at the time ,the trial was regarded as a farce.being trial by association.Luciano was a bad man who deserved putting away -this was a shabby way to do it.
As a book There are no details of his early life ,his bonding with the none Sicilian gangsters which at the time was considered to be a very daring thing to do.especialy Lansky and Seigal for which he was much critised by the other mobsters I agree with your previous critic there is nothing to learn from this nook ,which frankly I expected was would be a recent study.itis just a publicity spin for Dewey with whole chapters appearing to say nothing about the Title name
A complete waste of money and the time of anybody reading it

A Noted Secondary Source

Powell's documentation is basically correct based on the bare facts of the story found in New York City tabloid newspapers and in archived files. As such, it is a rare secondary source into the lives and legends of the prostitutes, bookers and madams who formed the web of prostitution used at Prosecutor Thomas Dewey's behest to convict the elusive Charlie Lucky. Originally written in the 1930s, Powell's prose reveals the language of old-style morality which was required in the days of censorship. As such, it is a time-capsule of the social mores governing prostitution. While crime historians focus on Lucky's later years, this jewel preserves the trial data that forced Luciano from the shadows.

Grade 5-7?Frustration, love, and sensitivity underscore the dynamics of family life for Fanny Swann, 12, the main character in this absorbing, well-crafted novel. Henkes has created strong and believable characters in Fanny; her artist father, Henry; and Ellen, her nurturing mother. Henry is having problems dealing with aging and doubts about his talents. When he goes off by himself rather than attend his own 60th birthday party, Fanny is angry and guilty at the same time, thinking that she is the cause of his behavior. While she loves and admires him, she also fears him and feels that he doesn't understand her. There has also been a rift between them since he gave away her incorrigibly rambunctious puppy months before. Despite his moodiness and unpredictable nature, a deep, strong love holds this family together. Fanny has an enviable relationship with her mother, who acts as a buffer between father and daughter. A new older and calmer dog is the catalyst for all of them to ultimately discuss their feelings, accept criticism, and try to change their behavior. In a time when dysfunctional families get center-stage in fiction for this age group, it is refreshing to find a novel that celebrates the family without being pedantic or unrealistic. What an amazing display of emotion...

I never really thought I would get into this book. I just nonchalantly picked it up off of the bookshelf in the library. I began to read it. I was pulled in by the very real display of emotion, and the dialog was also very realistic. The characters were described so well, I could almost see them. The story line was also something that actually does happen. Dogs do get taken away because of destructive habits. As I read the story, It felt like it was really winter outside, and I imagined myself sitting in front of a warm fireplace, listening to it crackle, and drinking hot chocolate. Just like Fanny. I read the whole book in less than a day. I couldn't disconnect myself from it. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

This book talks about the life of a 12-year-old girl whose name is Fanny. Her farther is an artist and is very hard to live with. His business is not going too well and he gets upset easily, particularly when he is not satisfied with his work. Fanny has always loved dogs, one night when her dad was not able to show up for his 60-year-old birthday party he brought back a Labrador puppy. However, her dad needs concentration for his work, and when the puppy began breaking things and fooling around at the house, he sent the puppy away to someone. Fanny is heart broken and misdirected her anger, frustration, and emotional outrage. One night Fanny's father comes home with another dog named Dinner. But Fanny is afraid, she worries that Dinner would ruin her dad's concentration, and he would send her away too. Soon, her father began using Dinner as the main model in his painting. Fanny understood then, that her father would never send anything away that she loves.
I found this book touching in some ways. This book is very straightforward and easy to understand. It isn't a very exciting book, but it has good writings and is a worthy book to read. Though, I think the title doesn't exactly match the meaning of the story. For instance, "Her mouth was a pouty circle, and short, slitty lines served as eyes and eyelashes."
The sentences are short and simple to read. This book isn't very descriptive nor complex. The sentences are also short, but it makes perfect sense. "The petals were so dark they looked black at the innermost whorl." It is in a very good writing, especially in a drama type of book.
I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the story that interested me, but the moral of this story. Even though the story doesn't completely mean the same meaning as the title, there was a important lesson about this doll (Marie) Fanny owned. The moral of this story is not to show emotional outrage to anyone in your family. Fanny never trusted her father, and she hid her belongings away from him. I recommend this book to everyone.

Hematology textbook

I needed this book for my school MLT hematology program. It is a really good hematology reference book with significantly deep science related to the study of blood and blood related problems. It is rather large as a volume which means that it is a good bookshelf reference book. A good range of really nice pictures and graphics as well as much information about each of the topics as you will need for a 2 year, 4 year degree and beyond. Well laid out information allows for easier understanding despite the depth of knowledge portrayed.

Great reference book!

When I first saw this book I got scared because of the size and weight of it, but when I finally got the courage to open it and start reading it, it surprised me! I found this book to be really good and the pictures are great and help out a lot. The case studies at the end of each chapter are really great and got me to understand more and think about the content of the chapter, which by doing that helped me to remember!! Also the last part of the book: Laboratory methods, was a great help to me both in preparing for class and when it came to writing the report, the book tells you step by step how the procedures are done. I will always keep this book for reference as I know it will help in during my career as a lab technongist.

If you still appreciate the jokes of Andrew Dice Clay, go for it. On the other hand, if you're a senior citizen like me and start telling these jokes in public (I did this in a bar near where the movie Gone Girl was shot) you are at great peril for being pummeled for political incorrectness to the point that you may be rendered an invalid.
