Very well-written book for new cockatiel owners (or potential owners). Gives detailed and excellent advice on all that you would need to know... choosing the bird, feeding, housing, teaching, handling, etc. Very informative, with plenty of photos. A definite should-buy for anyone considering a cockatiel as a pet.

I'm a new cockatiel owner my husband got it for me for a birthday present actually early birthday present. I have read and re read the book over and over again. I still enjoy it.Also I look for information on cockatiels on the internet so I feel pretty well set on information I need.I got the bird on August 13,2001 from a breeder in town.He's a emerald cockatiel which is a recessive gene mutation. His name is Tristan Jade and I call him "Jade" for short.I have really enjoyed him tremendously :)Cockatiels are amazing birds!This book has all the things I needed to know.If you miss something then you can look it up in the index at the back of the book or read the pages over.You will see something you missed.

Great Book for beginners

If you've owned cockatiels for a long time, this book is not for you. But if you're just beginning, like me, this book gives a great overview of all the things you need to consider when buying and taking care of a cockatiel. This book gives you basic information about feeding, maintenance, and characteristics of this great bird. By giving a brief and user friendly introduction to cockatiels, the author allows you to find the areas which require additional research based on your situation. Overall I'd say this book deserves an A++.

This is not a terribly interesting or intelligent book, but I would recommend it to people in a mid to advanced stage of learning French. The style is contemporary, the use of argot and idioms is not overwhelming and the story is easy to follow. I would not read anything else by this author.

GOOD INITIAL TEXTBOOK ON BANK MANAGEMENT

This book is a good example of what a textbook should be like. It explains the topic of bank management with competence, pointing out all the major issues without going too deep (and boring the beginner). After reading the first few chapters, the interested reader feels knowledgeable enough to intelligently discuss the topic.

The book is well segmented, with an initial explanation of bank financial statements and the main risks and opportunities associated with bank management. These chapters empower the beginner with confidence of understanding exactly how a bank makes money. Bank management seems like a very complex topic, something outside the reach of normal people; it is not true, anyone with a decent volume of training could perform the basic management activities of a bank.

I highly recommend this book for anyone working at a bank in order to understand the business, its risks and the main drivers of performance. If you are considering bank entrepreneurship, this is a must. There is a chapter that demonstrates the initial processes of bank management in a very simple way, which is interesting and encouraging to someone following down that pathway.

The essentials of banking are clearly explained in this book.Topics such as the management of bank capital, asset/liability management,international banking and bank mergers and acquisitions are explained with detail and clarity. Though this book doesn't deal with internet banking it helps you understand the underlying nature of every bank. I specially like the chapter where the authors explain the profitability of banks and how the banking business measures it.

Excellent inexpensive guide to engineering acoustics

If you are an engineering or physics student and you would like an inexpensive guide to acoustics with plenty of worked examples and solved problems, this little book is for you. The title page doesn't say so, but it is actually entitled "Schaum's Outline on the Theory and Problems of Acoustics", just so that you know the format. I bought this guide back in 1980 when work required that I obtain a computational knowledge of acoustics that was deeper than what I had acquired in college. All of the basic theory is there, and by going through the solved problems and then working the exercises at the end of each chapter I became proficient in the science of acoustics without the need of any other expensive books. There are plenty of diagrams, and the author even relates topics to electric circuits when possible, making this guide especially valuable to engineers with a basic knowledge of electric circuits. It is a shame it is out of print, so if you ever see a used copy for sale you might want to grab it. This guide is for engineers, so a knowledge of physics, calculus, and differential equations is presumed. This book will probably be incomprehensible to recording/studio professionals. The table of contents is as follows:
1. Vibrations and Waves - Vibrations, energy of vibrations, vibration of strings, longitudinal vibration of bars, vibration of membranes, vibration of circular plates.
2. Plane Acoustic Waves - Wave Equation, wave elements, speed of sound, acoustic intensity, sound energy density, specific acoustic impedence, sound measurements, resonance of air columns, doppler effect.
3. Spherical Acoustic Waves - Wave equation, wave elements, acoustic intensity and energy density, specific acoustic impedence, radiation of sound, source strength, radiation impedence.
4. Transmission of Sound - Transmission through two media, transmission through 3 media, reflection of sound, refraction of sound, diffraction of sound, scattering of sound, interference, filtration of sound, absorption of sound.
5. Loudspeaker and Microphone - Electroacoustical energy, loudspeakers, enclosures, horns, microphones, pressure-operated microphones, pressure gradient microphones, sensitivity, directivity, directional efficiency, resonance, calibration

Espectacular!

Espectacular! Aside from The Bible, this may be the most important book you ever get for your kids. And here's a little secret: most adults don't know this stuff either, so before you give it to your kids, read it yourself and advance well beyond the average level of popular discourse among your peers.

Some people think Logic is a massive tangled web they can never make sense of, but when you realize that there are only nine basic rules of inference, it becomes clear that anyone who puts in the time can master it. Two thumbs up!

The BEST textbook on logic in the market today

As a collector of books on logic and critical thinking, this is simply the best book on logic which is available in the market today.

This is aimed at children, but to be honest, this book should be an essential reading for every English-speaking adult too.

The rules of logic and inference are explained in a very easy way, making possible misunderstandings about logic by the reader to be virtually impossible.

When I was a teenager, I struggled a lot with textbooks on logic because (for unknown reasons) some authors and teachers seemed to enjoy to make this topic extremely complex and obscure for beginners.

Craig's book on logic will be the standard against which all the other basic textbooks on logic will be measured, in terms of clarity of exposition and simple (but not simplistic) and rigurous explanations and teachings about the basic ways in which logical reasoning works.

An essential manual to high school and college students if they want to enhance, perfect and refine their rational thinking skills and dramatically increase the overall level of rationality in our culture.

Good book for beginners, overall.

Good book for beginners in the study of Learning Logic. I bought this because I had a difficult time following philosophical and logic arguments and thought this book would be a good place to start. Craig lays out the foundations of learning logical thinking, but it would help if he explained it more, explained his examples more, and gave more examples. I had a difficult time understanding some of the reasoning. I'm a logical thinker by nature, it appears, but I don't understand the reasons why. Good book overall. It may be better for young students only because I remember how much easier it was to understand things when I was in school so many decades ago.

Robert Shimmin has held senior marketing and business development positions in the print, packaging and label sector spanning more than 20 years. He is a regular contributor of articles to the print and packaging trade press and has supported initiatives that seek to build awareness of the latest research and innovations emanating from UK universities.
